However, sharing college experiences in an overly boastful way can leave a negative impression, even if you have exceptional achievements. Striking a balance between showing your abilities and not coming across as arrogant is key to succeeding in an interview. So, how can students share their college experiences without appearing overconfident in job interviews? Here are several tips to follow:

1. FOCUS ON RELEVANT SKILLS

The first step in avoiding an overconfident impression is to choose college experiences that are relevant to the position you're applying for. Avoid discussing all of your achievements during college if they don't directly relate to the job you're applying for. For example, if you're applying for a marketing position, a story about managing a campus event or working on a digital marketing project will be more relevant than stories about academic activities unrelated to the role.

By focusing on relevant experiences, you show that you understand the skills required for the position and how your college experiences can contribute to the job without appearing boastful.

2. SHARE UNIQUE STORIES

Unique or uncommon stories can be an effective way to grab the interviewer's attention without sounding arrogant. Avoid mentioning achievements that are too common or easily relatable to many students, such as "I always get straight A's" or "I was always the top student in my class." Instead, try to share more personal experiences that still remain relevant.

During interviews, avoid telling overly long and detailed stories, especially if they are not directly related to the question asked. Interviewers typically prefer concise, clear, and to-the-point information. Share your college experiences in a few sentences that cover the situation, actions, and outcomes.
