Many people assume that self-doubt only arises before starting something. In reality, the opposite is often true. When someone is already in the process of learning, growing, and developing, self-doubt can emerge even more strongly. This condition can be confusing and cause individuals to question their own abilities. So why does self-doubt appear in the middle of a journey that is already underway?

INCREASING SELF-AWARENESS

The more someone progresses, the greater their awareness of personal limitations. The learning process opens one’s eyes to how much there is still to master. This awareness is actually a sign of growth, but it is often misinterpreted as incompetence. As a result, doubt arises even though significant progress has already been made.

EVER-INCREASING PERSONAL STANDARDS

As individuals grow, the standards they set for themselves often rise as well. Goals that once felt ambitious may now seem ordinary and are replaced with even higher expectations. Without realizing it, these constantly rising standards make it difficult to feel satisfied, ultimately triggering self-doubt.

THE INFLUENCE OF ENVIRONMENT AND SOCIAL COMPARISON

The surrounding environment and social media play a major role in the emergence of self-doubt. Seeing other people’s achievements can make one’s own progress feel slow and insignificant. In reality, everyone has different timelines and paths of development. These comparisons often lead individuals to doubt a process that is actually moving forward.

A PROCESS THAT HAS NOT YET SHOWN VISIBLE RESULTS

Self-doubt can also arise because the results of a process are not yet clearly visible. Not all efforts produce immediate outcomes. When results do not meet expectations, people begin to question whether the process they are following is correct or even worthwhile.

LACK OF SELF-APPRECIATION

Many individuals focus too much on what has not been achieved, leaving little room to appreciate small improvements. In reality, progress consists of simple steps that, when accumulated, lead to significant change. Without self-appreciation, doubt can easily grow even as progress continues.

HOW TO DEAL WITH SELF-DOUBT DURING THE PROCESS

An important step in dealing with self-doubt is shifting one’s perspective on the process itself. Doubt is not a sign of failure, but a part of growth. Focusing on progress rather than perfection and stopping comparisons with others can help maintain stable self-confidence.

CONCLUSION

Self-doubt that arises during the process is natural and human. Increased self-awareness, rising standards, and environmental pressure are common triggers. By learning to appreciate the process and understanding that growth takes time, self-doubt can be managed so it does not hinder forward movement.
