Being an active student is not only about attending classes and completing assignments. Many students are also involved in campus organizations, communities, or committees. While these activities offer many benefits, without proper time management, academic responsibilities can be neglected and organizational involvement can become a burden. Therefore, effective time management strategies are essential to ensure that both academics and organizational activities run smoothly.

THE IMPORTANCE OF TIME MANAGEMENT FOR ACTIVE STUDENTS

Time management is the ability to plan, organize, and use time effectively. For students involved in organizations, this skill is crucial for maintaining balance between academic and non-academic responsibilities. Without clear time management, students are prone to fatigue, stress, and declining academic performance. On the other hand, good time management helps students become more disciplined, productive, and responsible.

SETTING PRIORITIES FROM THE START

The first step in time management is setting priorities. Students must realize that academics remain the primary responsibility, while organizations serve as a means of self-development. Create a daily or weekly activity list and mark which tasks are mandatory, important, or can be postponed. This helps students make wise decisions when facing a packed schedule.

CREATING A REALISTIC AND FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE

A good schedule is not just full, but realistic. Students often overburden themselves by scheduling too many activities in one day, which reduces focus and work quality. Use digital calendars or planners to record class schedules, organizational meetings, study time, and rest periods. Leave some empty space to anticipate sudden activities.

MAKING EFFECTIVE USE OF FREE TIME

Free time is often wasted if not used wisely. Short breaks between classes or waiting time before meetings can be used to review materials, complete light tasks, or plan activities. Smart students can turn brief moments into productive opportunities, reducing workload during busier times.

MAINTAINING PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH

Time management is not only about scheduling but also about maintaining physical and mental well-being. Lack of sleep, insufficient rest, and excessive stress can reduce focus and motivation. Ensure adequate sleep, balanced nutrition, and time for relaxation. Healthy students are better able to manage their time and responsibilities effectively.

DARING TO SAY NO WHEN NECESSARY

One common mistake among active students is accepting every opportunity. The ability to politely say no is also part of healthy time management. If an activity risks disrupting academic performance or health, it is reasonable to decline or postpone involvement. Quality contribution is more important than the number of activities.

CONCLUSION

Balancing academic life and organizational involvement is achievable. With proper time management, students can maintain academic performance while developing soft skills through organizations. The key lies in setting priorities, creating realistic schedules, making effective use of time, and maintaining health.
